This course is designed for healthcare professionals including home healthcare workers, healthcare students, and families who are caregivers of older adults.
An elder’s age is not a “one-size-fits-all”, and elders at any specific age must not be forced into stereotypes and statistics. Too often when an elder is accompanied by a younger person, a healthcare professional will ask the younger person questions, speaking in third person about the older person. There is too much disrespect and demeaning treatment of older persons, while they are trying to navigate medical care.
Beginning in the1990’s, Bessie’s Hope began partnering with Regis University Service-Learning Department for Healthcare graduates and under graduate students to provide additional geriatric education and training. The professionals and students gave testimonies regarding the immense value of the geriatric training received from Bessie’s Hope. During the restrictions of the COVID pandemic, it was discovered that the zoom education/training sessions were just as effective as in-person sessions.
